Shrimp Too Salty
Your shrimp are overly salty because of a strong brine or seasoning. Dilute and balance with acid.
too salty harsh finish dairy-free high-protein
Ingredients on hand
- cooked shrimp
- unsalted water
- lemon juice
- olive oil
- herbs
Why it happened
Salt clings to the surface of shrimp. A quick rinse and added fat and acid reduce the perception of saltiness.
The fix
- 1 rinse shrimp briefly in cool water and pat dry
- 2 toss with 1 tablespoon olive oil and 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 3 add fresh herbs to balance the flavor
If it's still wrong
- Chop and mix into a salad with unsalted ingredients.
- Serve with plain rice to dilute.
Prevent next time
- Brine for a shorter time and taste the seasoning.
- Season after cooking instead of before.
Notes
Why this works
Rinsing removes surface salt, while oil and acid change how your palate registers salinity. That makes the shrimp taste balanced again.
Substitutions
- lemon juice → vinegar
- herbs → scallions
