Salmon Sticking to Grill

Your salmon stuck because the grill was not hot or the fish was wet. Release it and finish gently.

stuck fillet torn skin gluten-free high-protein

Ingredients on hand

  • grilled salmon
  • neutral oil
  • grill brush
  • spatula
  • lemon

Why it happened

Fish releases when the proteins brown. If you move it too early or the grill is cool, it sticks.

The fix

  1. 1 leave it for 30 seconds to let the crust release, then slide a thin spatula under
  2. 2 add a little oil to the grill grates and the fish surface
  3. 3 finish with lemon to balance any torn bits

If it's still wrong

  • Flake and serve in a bowl with sauce.
  • Remove the skin and crisp it separately.

Prevent next time

  • Preheat the grill fully and oil the grates.
  • Pat the fish dry and oil lightly.

Notes

Why this works

Browning creates a natural release from the grates. Heat and oil allow the proteins to set and lift cleanly instead of tearing.

Substitutions

  • neutral oil avocado oil
  • lemon lime
