Meatballs Dry
Your meatballs are dry because the mix was too lean or overcooked. Simmer them in sauce to rehydrate.
Part of proteins cooking fixes and dry food fixes .
dry texture crumbly bite high-protein
Ingredients on hand
- cooked meatballs
- tomato sauce
- water
- butter
- herbs
Why it happened
Lean meat loses moisture quickly. Gentle simmering rehydrates the surface and adds fat for a softer bite.
The fix
- 1 simmer meatballs in sauce with 1/4 cup water for 10 minutes
- 2 add a pat of butter for richness
- 3 serve with extra sauce
If it's still wrong
- slice and use in subs with plenty of sauce
- crumble into a baked pasta
Prevent next time
- use a mix with some fat and add breadcrumbs
- avoid overbaking before simmering
Notes
Why this works
Moist heat adds water back to the meat surface, while fat restores lubrication. This makes dry meatballs feel more tender.
Substitutions
- tomato sauce → broth
- butter → olive oil
