Coleslaw Watery
Your coleslaw is watery because salt drew liquid from the cabbage. Drain and re-dress.
watery dressing limp cabbage vegetarian
Ingredients on hand
- coleslaw
- colander
- mayonnaise
- vinegar
- sugar
Why it happened
Salt pulls water from cabbage through osmosis, thinning the dressing. Draining removes that liquid.
The fix
- 1 drain the slaw in a colander for 5 minutes
- 2 whisk in 1 tablespoon mayonnaise to thicken
- 3 add a splash of vinegar and a pinch of sugar to reset balance
If it's still wrong
- Add shredded carrots or cabbage to absorb moisture.
- Serve with a slotted spoon.
Prevent next time
- Salt the cabbage, then squeeze and drain before dressing.
- Dress shortly before serving.
Notes
Why this works
