Bacon Burnt

  • burnt bacon
  • knife
  • brown sugar
  • pepper
  • skillet

Why it happened

Burnt sugars turn bitter. Removing the char and adding a light glaze balances the flavor.

The fix

  1. 1 trim the darkest edges and discard
  2. 2 brush with a tiny bit of brown sugar and pepper
  3. 3 warm in a skillet for 30 seconds to re-crisp

If it's still wrong

  • chop and use as a topping for salads
  • mix into a breakfast hash

Prevent next time

  • cook over medium or bake at 375F
  • start bacon in a cold pan
